***Elton at Hampton Court Palace June 18,
2003 Dusk fell and Elton's lights shone warm red on Hampton Court's famous twisted barley-sugar chimneys. What a setting:
England's beautiful historic palace, built by Thomas Wolsey and given to King Henry VIII in 1545. The River Thames flowing
alongside, lush green lawns, fountains, cobbled paths, picnics under the trees and the opportunity to see Elton performing
solo in an intimate courtyard arena. Elton's arrival onstage was met with a standing ovation and he started playing Your
Song, which of course we all feel is 'our song'. Elton said that he felt privileged to play in this incredible setting,
and hoped his playing would be as good as the architecture. It was! We had heard that Elton would be including a song that
he hadn't sung on tour before, and before the concert there had been speculation as to what it would be.(The wildest suggestion
was the traditional song I'm Henry the Eighth I Am!) No one guessed that it would be Mancini and Mercer's Moon River,
from the film Breakfast at Tiffany's. Well, we had the moon, we had the river, and Elton sang it beautifully. Let's hope it
stays in the set for the season.***(borrowed from the editor of EltonJohn.com...thank you)

Elton John and his band
(Thank you for the great review, Colin.)
Concert at the N.E.C. Sunday 15th December 2002 Birminghan, U.K.
After waiting 9 years since my last EJ concert, I was looking
forward to this one last Sunday. I was sitting in the second block back (It seemed ages since I booked those tickets); it
could've been a better view, but equally it wasn't the worst seat in the house. Elton came onto the stage at 20.05 and was
on for 2.5 hours. He opened with the, by now, statutory Funeral for a friend / Love lies bleeding which he and the band played
fantastically. Elton sang brilliantly right from the start, his voice was so clear and meaningful, the band played magnificently
- the sound was so crisp and faultless, every chord, every drum beat was immaculate. It has to be said, like many others,
I was awestruck The new songs are a credit to Sir Elton and Bernie, what incredible lyrics and tunes to hear them sung live
was nothing short of a privilege.
I thought the Bass guitarist Bob Birch was really laid back
to be sitting down playing throughout the show. Then, when Elton introduced the band later, we found out why. He told us he'd
slipped a disc and that he was doing a grand job, so well done Bob !
Just before I'm still standing, the fans in the front block
were able to flock forward to the stage. I so wanted to do that! The security guards ensured no-one else went forward, and
just turned people back to their seats. I enjoyed all the songs, so therefore I don't want to single out any as better; it's
great to hear a mix of old and new - especially as songs from the west coast, for me, is the best thing EJ has done for twenty
years
At the end, Elton signed lots of autographs, clearly enjoying
support from his loyal followers. Elton thanked everyone for their support and clearly enjoyed the night. I, and thousands
of others, thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the show although one bloke in front of us didn't stand up when we all did,
and looked as miserable as sin - he was obviously ordered there by the missus, and he looked around disgusted when my daughter
was whistling (albeit it was in his ear)!
Elton, you were brilliant, may you rock & roll forever
Colin. (Milo)
(Set list same as most of the other concerts, I can't remember
the exact order so I won't attempt).
